• Nexium (esomeprazole) should be taken at least two hours before or after an exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) (see section 4).
• Take Nexium with food to reduce stomach irritation. Nexium may take some time to work. If you take Nexium on an empty stomach, it will take longer for Nexium to work because it will not fully eliminate the stomach acid (the substance that causes your stomach to swell).
• Nexium should not be taken more than once per day.
• If you have taken Nexium for more than two weeks, your symptoms may improve more rapidly than usual, especially if you are taking it for longer than 24 hours.
• If you take Nexium for more than 24 hours, you may need to wait for the full effects of the treatment to be known. Taking your Nexium at least 24 hours before taking another medicine may increase the risk of side effects. See section 4.
• If you are taking Nexium to treat asthma and COPD, you should take your dose of Nexium at least three times daily.
• Take Nexium to reduce the inflammation associated with asthma.
• Do not take Nexium with other medications that treat asthma such as sulfasalazine or corticosteroids.
• Do not take Nexium if you are allergic to esomeprazole or omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, or rabeprazole, or if you have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding that is caused by Nexium.
• Asthma is a life-threatening condition, and treatment with an asthma inhaler is important.
• The use of an inhaled medication (such as Nexium) for asthma is important.
• If you have had an asthma attack or an asthma exacerbation, you should not use Nexium to treat your asthma.
• If you have taken Nexium for more than three weeks, you may need to wait for the symptoms to improve.
• If you have taken Nexium to treat COPD and asthma, you should take your dose of Nexium at least two hours before or after your treatment with an asthma inhaler.
• If you have taken Nexium for more than 24 hours, you may need to wait for the full effects of the treatment to be known.

They need to know if you have heartburn or heartburn that lasts for more than four or five days. Do not take Nexium Control if you are allergic to esomeprazole or any of the other ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
Tell your care team about all the medicines you take including prescription/over-the-counter medicines (like diuretics), herbal medicines (such as St John’s Wort), and medicines bought from an online pharmacy or supermarket.
In particular, do not take Nexium Control if you have taken an MAO inhibitor (MAOI). MAOIs work by blocking the production of the enzyme that breaks down serotonin in the brain.
